‘Without judgement’: Push to improve sexual health awareness in West Northants
The initiative aims to break down stigma and encourage people to seek help early
People in West Northamptonshire are encouraged to utilise trusted sexual health services as Sexual Health Week 2026 takes place until 20th September.
West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) and Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) are partnering to raise awareness about sexual health, promoting open conversations, and ensuring residents access reliable information and support.
Councillor Laura Couse, Cabinet Member for Adult Care and Public Health at WNC, emphasised the importance of sexual health awareness and encouraged residents to engage with professional services: “Sexual Health Week is where we are raising awareness and providing residents with an opportunity to talk to healthcare providers without judgement.
''It's about encouraging open and honest conversations, challenging stigma and reminding residents that confidential advice, information and support is available for them locally.”
Lisa Knight-Smith, Service Manager for NHFT Sexual Health Services, reiterated that sexual health is essential to overall wellbeing: “Our message this Sexual Health Week is simple: if you're looking for sexual health advice, support or testing, NHFT is a trusted place to start.”
The available services include sexual health advice, STI testing and treatment, HIV testing, emergency contraception, and outreach support across communities.
Locals are advised to seek advice for any questions, testing needs, or concerns about symptoms and rely on trusted service providers rather than unverified online information.
This initiative aims to challenge stigma, foster open dialogue, and remind residents that looking after sexual health is crucial for overall health and wellbeing.
