People across West Northamptonshire are being invited to help shape the future of housing in the area as part of a public consultation on the council's new five-year housing strategy.

West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) has published its draft Housing Strategy 2027-2032, which outlines plans to increase the number of affordable homes, improve housing standards, strengthen support for vulnerable residents and help people live independently for longer.

The strategy will guide housing services and investment over the next five years and sets out how the authority intends to work with partners to tackle rising housing demand, prevent homelessness and support sustainable communities.

Residents, council tenants, landlords, developers, community groups and partner organisations are being encouraged to give their views before the final document is presented to the council's cabinet for approval.

The draft strategy is based on housing needs data, service information and feedback from stakeholders. It is centred around four key priorities: delivering more affordable and specialist housing, providing high-quality services and homes for council tenants, supporting independent living and resilient communities, and improving standards in the private rented sector.

The council said the strategy recognises the important role housing plays in health, wellbeing and life opportunities, with an aim to ensure all residents have access to a safe, suitable and affordable home.

Councillor Charlie Hastie, deputy leader of the council and cabinet member for housing and communities, said: "Good quality housing is at the heart of strong communities and better life chances.

"Our Housing Strategy sets out how we'll work with partners to increase affordable housing, prevent homelessness, improve housing standards and support residents to live independently.

"We want to hear from as many people as possible. Whether you're a tenant, homeowner, landlord, developer or community organisation, your feedback will help shape the final strategy and ensure it reflects the needs of our communities."

The consultation is available on the council's website and closes at midnight on 29 November 2026.
