Wellingborough drug dealer jailed after being caught hiding in bushes
Officers found wraps of crack cocaine and heroin after a chase near a cemetery
A drug dealer who was caught hiding in bushes in Wellingborough has been jailed following an investigation by neighbourhood police.
Arilleus Wright, 20-year-old, has been sentenced to two years and four months in a young offenders' institution.
How he was caught
On 11th April 2024, officers on patrol in Wellingborough spotted a man acting suspiciously next to a block of flats in Parkin Close at about 6pm.
The man, later identified as Wright, made off despite requests from officers to stop and speak to them.
That evening, officers returned to the Doddington Road area and at about 11.30pm saw a man jump from the bushes and sprint into a taxi opposite the cemetery.
Officers pulled the taxi over a short time later and found Wright inside.
A search of the bush he had jumped from uncovered wraps of suspected crack cocaine and heroin.
Charged and sentenced
Wright was arrested and charged with two counts of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.
He pleaded guilty at Northampton Crown Court in June and was sentenced at the same court on 26th August.
Police reaction
Lead investigator PC Jamie O'Sullivan, from the Wellingborough Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "This result demonstrates the value of proactive neighbourhood policing and the determination of our officers to tackle the supply of illegal drugs in Northamptonshire.
"Wright attempted to evade police on more than one occasion, but thanks to the persistence and vigilance of officers, he was arrested and brought before the courts.
"The sale of Class A drugs causes significant harm to individuals, families and our communities, and we are committed to identifying those involved and putting them before the courts. I hope this sentence sends a clear message that drug dealing will not be tolerated and that we will continue to take action against anyone involved in this type of criminality."
