Thousands of runners will take to the streets of Northampton this Sunday, 13th September, for the annual Amazing Northampton Run half marathon.

The race begins at 9.30am in Market Square, following a 13.1‑mile route past landmarks including The Guildhall, 78 Derngate and Franklin’s Gardens, and through parks such as The Racecourse, where Northampton Town Council has funded 12 mobile toilets after previous feedback highlighted the need for more facilities.

A three‑leg relay and three‑mile fun run will also take place, organised by The Amazing Northampton Run CIC. Entries for all events remain open until 8am on Friday, 11th September.

Cllr Keith Holland‑Delamere, Chair of the Community Services Committee, said the council was pleased to support the event again, noting that additional facilities were introduced after runners previously raised concerns about accessibility. He said the run brings large crowds into the town, supports local charities and encourages wider community involvement through volunteers, music and cultural performances.

Event Director Simon Hollis said the run has continued to evolve over its four years, with changes made in response to participant feedback to improve the experience for everyone. He thanked Northampton Town Council for its ongoing support and encouraged residents along the route to come outside and cheer runners on to give them a warm Northampton welcome.

The Mayor of Northampton, Cllr Mike Hallam, will join the pre‑race warm‑up at around 9.15am. His Cadet Sergeant and 16 other runners are taking part to raise money for The McCarthy Dixon Foundation, the Mayor’s chosen charity for the civic year.

The event is also supported by Northampton Town Centre BID and West Northamptonshire Council (WNC). WNC has funded half of the Temporary Traffic Regulation Order costs and worked closely with organisers during planning. Cllr Kamala Guliyeva, Cabinet Member for Economy, Culture and Leisure, said the run demonstrates Northampton’s strong community spirit and encourages people of all ages and abilities to get active.

Mark Mullen, Chief Operating Officer for Northampton Town Centre BID, said the BID was pleased to contribute by funding crowd barriers in the finishing straight, allowing businesses to display banners to the thousands of runners and spectators expected in the town centre.
