Three people convicted of stabbing 16-year-old in broad daylight in Northampton
Police say the victim is 'so lucky to be alive'
Three people have been convicted of stabbing a 16-year-old boy in broad daylight in Northampton town centre.
The attack took place at about 5pm on 19th May 2025, when Northamptonshire Police began receiving multiple 999 calls reporting a boy being stabbed on Abington Street.
Officers arrived to find the victim in a critical condition with multiple stab wounds to his abdomen. Members of the public and ambulance crews were giving the boy first aid, which police say saved his life.
The attackers had fled the scene.
Following an investigation, three people were arrested and charged with attempted murder.
Two 17-year-old boys from Northampton, who cannot be identified due to their age, pleaded guilty to Section 18 – grievous bodily harm at Northampton Crown Court.
The third offender, 23-year-old Hamza Zaki Sharif, previously of Simons Walk, Northampton, was found guilty of the same offence following a six-day trial.
All three will be sentenced at Leicester Crown Court on 5th December 2025.
'The victim is lucky to be here'
Detective Constable Georgia Sampson, the lead investigator, described the attack as "an absolutely horrific" assault on one of Northampton’s busiest streets.
“The victim is so lucky to still be here,” DC Sampson said. “Thankfully, he survived the assault and continues with his recovery, and I hope this result provides him with some sense of justice and closure.
“I’d also like to thank the members of the public who took immediate action when this incident happened and provided the boy with first aid. Their actions, alongside those of the ambulance crews, undoubtedly saved his life.”
Northamptonshire Police tackling knife crime
Detective Inspector Tony Kennedy of Northamptonshire Police emphasised that addressing knife crime and serious violence remains a key priority for the Force.
“I hope this case sends a strong message that we will never tolerate this type of behaviour and will work tirelessly to bring the offenders to justice," DI Kennedy said.
He added praise for the police response, which included quick arrests and intensive work to secure charges.
“We will continue working hard to ensure more people like these three males end up where they belong - behind bars.”
