A unique group of Northamptonshire volunteers have given out a special recognition award.

The Geddington Volunteer Fire Brigade came together to help out the community during the National firemen's strike in 1977, and have since registered as a charity to offer support in times of need, and at local events.

Every year Firefighters do battle with the local Geddington Volunteer Fire Brigade, who both take up position on either side of the river for their Boxing Day challenge.

The Geddington Squirt is a fairly unique water fight.

They simply fire their water hoses to propel a suspended beer barrel over to their opponents.

Coloured flares are then set off to show who's won each heat - Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue, or the GVFB!

Local pub and restaurant owner Richard Gordon, who owns a number of local hospitality outlets, was the award recipient. He himself has made a name for himself in business ventures and activity across the area.

Richard told us more about how honoured he was to get the prize, and about the sorts of things GVFB typically do:

"They're often there at times of catastrophe. When we've had floods, they're known to help people out.

"Asides from this, they may help by cutting the grass in the church grounds, for example. Simply they're a great bunch of kind hearted people.

"I'm really humbled to get this from my home village. This is where I live and where I went to school.

"To be recognised for helping them out in their cause I am truly very humbled and very proud."
