During Response Policing Week 2026, schoolchildren across the county have shown their appreciation for local police officers by sending letters of thanks and support.

Participating pupils from various schools engaged in a letter-writing initiative, expressing gratitude and acknowledging the significant role response officers play in community safety.

Facilitated by local Neighbourhood Policing Teams, the initiative received an overwhelmingly positive response from schools, with students eager to share their appreciation and ask questions about policing and officers' daily efforts.

Chief Inspector Nicola Davis-Lyons emphasised the importance of recognising the impact response officers have on making children feel safe.

"For some young people, their experience with the police won't of always been a positive one. We're really keen on working with young people, particularly our primary aged kids, so we can make positive relationships and be positive role models in their lives.

In return, response officers will visit participating schools in the coming weeks, offering their thanks and addressing inquiries raised in the children's letters to further strengthen ties with young people.

Response Policing Week, a celebration of officers often first on the scene during emergencies, underscores the professionalism, resilience, and dedication required in such a challenging role.
