Emergency services were called to the scene on the warm spring day after Ronalds got into trouble in the water while swimming with friends.
He was pulled from the river but later died at Northampton General Hospital.
The hearing will look at the circumstances surrounding his death and consider what lessons can be learned to help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Speaking with us Ronalds' dad Thomas said: " No family should have to g through this."
Since their sons passing Ronalds' parents, Thomas and Laura have campaigned for a water saftey course to be run for the local community.
“We decided not to let any family go through what we’re going through. One of it was to do a water safety course for the community to raise awareness.”
“We keep fighting, we keep this campaign going on.”
“We try as much as we can to let this water safety session carry on for as long as possible.”
“If we can start something, I’m sure other towns may be able to follow.”
Safety concerns raised
In the aftermath of the incident, Ronalds’ family and members of the local community have raised concerns about water safety along that stretch of the river.
They have highlighted issues including the perceived lack of safety equipment, such as lifebuoys, in the area where the incident took place.
The case has prompted renewed discussion locally about the risks of open-water swimming, particularly during warmer weather when more people are drawn to rivers and lakes.
Lifesaving initiatives in his memory
Following Ronalds’ death, his family has supported efforts to improve awareness of water safety.
This has included the introduction of free, one-day lifesaving courses at Waendel Leisure Centre.
The sessions focus on cold water shock awareness and basic “reach rescue” techniques aimed at helping people respond safely in emergency situations near water.
A fundraiser was also launched in Ronalds’ memory, reflecting the impact his death has had on the local community.
Inquest focus
The inquest will examine the full circumstances of the incident and is expected to consider what measures could help reduce the risk of future drownings in open water locations.
Thomas said this about the inquest:
“It’s not going to bring Ronald back, but at least it will give us a bit of closure.”
“We still have doubts as to what happened on the day.”
“We just want to know the reasons.”
