Prolific burglar gets six years in jail for targeting Northampton homes

A burglar has been jailed for six years after targeting homes across Northampton and used stolen bank cards to make
Darren Kimpton, aged 41, of no fixed address was sentenced at Northampton Crown Court on September the 4th. He had previously pleaded guilty on August the 21st to five counts of dwelling burglary and three counts of fraud by false representation.
The court heard how Kimpton burgled properties across Northampton between March 2025 and June this year. He stole cash, jewellery, bank cards, electronic items, and other personal belongings.
He carried out the burglaries at properties in Wildfell Walk, Dallington Road, Pembroke Road, Primrose Hill and Billing Road. He used stolen bank cards to make fraudulent purchases at shops in Northampton.
Forensic evidence, fingerprints and CCTV footage allowed police officers to link Kimpton to the offences. He was captured on CCTV smashing a kitchen window to gain entry at a property on Dallington Road. Forensic evidence and fingerprints linked him to burglaries in Pembroke Road and Primrose Hill.
Officers then traced fraudulent transactions made using stolen bank cards following a burglary in Billing Road. CCTV showed the stolen cards being used shortly after the break-in, and some of the stolen property was later recovered from Billing Road Cemetery.
Police arrested Kimpton on July the 9th. When officers found a screwdriver in his possession, he told them: "I need that to commit my burglaries."
Detective Sergeant Tara Withers, of Northamptonshire Police's Burglary Team, said: "Burglary is an intrusive crime which can have a lasting impact on victims, leaving people feeling unsafe in their own homes.
"This result reflects the hard work of officers who pieced together evidence from across a number of investigations to identify and arrest a repeat offender.
"I hope this sentence provides some reassurance to the victims and the wider community that we remain committed to bringing burglars before the courts."
