Third prisoner death in five months at HMP Five Wells

Roger Lemon, aged 79, died in hospital on 10 April 2025 and is the third prisoner from HMP Five Wells to die since December, when two others died within 15 days

A 79-year-old prisoner from HMP Five Wells in Northamptonshire has died in hospital, becoming the third person from the prison to die in five months.

Roger Lemon died at an outside hospital on 10 April 2025. His death was confirmed by G4S, who run the prison.

The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman, are no investigating the case.

A prison spokesperson said: “A 79-year-old prisoner died at an outside hospital on 10th April 2025. As with all deaths in custody, this will be investigated by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman and it is for the coroner to determine cause of death.”

Two other prisoners from HMP Five Wells died in December 2024, just 15 days apart. Each death is being independently reviewed.
