Police issue warning ahead of New Year celebrations
Officers urge partygoers to think twice before driving whilst intoxicated
Northamptonshire Police are reminding those heading out to celebrate New Year to plan a safe journey home and avoid driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The advice comes as thousands prepare to attend parties and events across the county to ring in 2026.
Officers say drug and drink driving not only leads to a criminal record it has devastating consequences for others.
Ian Wills, Chief Inspector at Northamptonshire Police, said:
‘’We don't want to spoil anybody's fun, but drug and drink driving has an enormous impact, not only on the offender's life, but the lives of loved ones and the wider community.’’
As part of the police's campaign, officers intend to step up patrols) and increase roadside checks throughout the day, including early mornings, to catch anyone who might still be over the limit after the night before.
Chief Inspector Wills says there is ‘’absolutely no excuse’’ for drink and drug driving and urged people to make the ‘’right choices’’ when celebrating this New Year.
He added: ‘’Nobody wants to get that terrible knock on the door to say a loved one isn't coming home.’’
To report suspected drink or drug driving call Northamptonshire Police on 101 or call 999 in an emergency.
