Police link armed shop robberies in Northampton

Three robberies involving weapons have left staff shaken and cash stolen

Detectives are investigating a series of shop robberies in Northampton and are urging witnesses to come forward with information.

In the past two days, two men allegedly entered three shops in the town, threatened staff with weapons, and stole cash along with alcohol or cigarettes, according to police.

Detective Inspector Hayley Thurston from Northamptonshire Police confirmed that the incidents are being linked.

“We are in the early days of investigating these incidents but due to the similarities in what has happened we are linking them,” Thurston said.

Shop workers in Northampton have been encouraged to remain vigilant, particularly at the start and end of their working day, and report any suspicious behaviour.

While no injuries have been reported, police revealed the robberies have left staff shaken.

The first incident took place at Tesco in Limehurst Square, Duston, on Tuesday, 16th December, between 6.40am and 6.50am.

The second occurred at Morrisons in White Hills Crescent, Kingsthorpe, on Wednesday, 17th December, between 6.40am and 6.45am.

The third happened at Subway in the Hunsbury District Centre, Mereway, on Wednesday, 17th December, between 5.45pm and 5.50pm.

The suspected offenders are both described as white men in their 20s or 30s, wearing dark clothing. One was seen carrying a motorcycle helmet while the other used a face covering.

Police are appealing for dash-cam footage, CCTV, or any information that may help identify the individuals involved. Witnesses or those with information can contact Northamptonshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 25000735192.
