The event commander for the policing operation at the 2026 Formula 1 Pirelli British Grand Prix at Silverstone has expressed gratitude to racegoers for supporting a safe and enjoyable experience at the UK's largest sporting event.

The policing operation concluded successfully following a record-breaking attendance of 564,000 people over four days, with 170,000 spectators watching Charles Leclerc win the latest round of the Formula 1 World Championship.

A robust policing presence was evident throughout the event, with uniformed and plain-clothed officers patrolling the circuit, campsites, surrounding villages and roads.

They were backed by Thames Valley Police, the Special Constabulary, and specialist resources including armed officers, search teams, covert resources and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) units.

Live Facial Recognition technology was also employed.

Partnerships with Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service, East Midlands Ambulance Service and National Highways supported the operation.

Chief Inspector Pete Basham, commander for the policing operation, acknowledged the contributions from colleagues, partners, and all attendees for ensuring such a successful event.

He highlighted that despite some incidents, the overall number remained low considering the event size, with 26 crimes reported and 15 arrests made.

Basham noted the importance of racegoers' engagement with police and security teams in maintaining safety.

He extended thanks to organisations involved in the operation and colleagues across the Force who maintained regular policing duties.

With planning beginning months in advance, the operation aimed to ensure the best possible experience for attendees.

Congratulations were also extended to Charles Leclerc for his victory.
