Hidden across North Northamptonshire, 131 hand-painted rocks are encouraging people to talk about organ donation.

The efforts are organised by the Organ and Tissue Donation Committees at Kettering and Northampton general hospitals to mark national Organ Donation Week, which begins today and runs until 28th September.

In Kettering, several events are planned, including lighting up St Peter & St Paul Church in pink for the week and organising displays at Kettering General Hospital's main reception and education centre. A pink sock day competition for staff at Kettering and Northampton General hospitals is also planned to encourage participation.

Additionally, a stand will be present at University Hospitals Northamptonshire's Annual Meeting on 23rd September at the Prince William Education Centre, where Committee Chair Nicola Lee will share her personal experiences with organ donation.

In Northampton, the Barret Maternity entrance at Northampton General Hospital will be illuminated pink, accompanied by digital displays on billboards and a stand at Towcester Leisure Centre.

The events are part of ongoing efforts to promote organ donation, with recent success in both hospitals.

In the past year, the Kettering team made 59 referrals to organ donation, with 11 proceeding to donation, resulting in 30 donations to people aged 15 to 77.

Meanwhile, Northampton General Hospital saw 63 referrals, saving more than 21 lives and providing tissue donations including 32 corneas for transplant.
