Oil spill clean-up underway near A14 with calls for public pressure
Authorities urged to address contamination impacting Nene Valley drainage ditch
Efforts to remediate an oil spill beside the A14, north of Woodford, have commenced, with calls for public pressure to ensure thorough clean-up and accountability from authorities.
Nick Urquhart from Northants Litter Wombles has reported that the waste management company Acumen is leading the operation by transferring 3,000 gallons of contaminated water and oil.
A pair of tankers are pumping the oil along the bridleway into a smaller tanker, relaying it to a larger HGV articulated tanker positioned at Woodford Ford.
An Environment Agency (EA) officer has indicated that the oil has worsened over the past two days but trusts that containment measures within the site have mitigated potential risks to the Nene Valley downstream.
Lee Barron MP is actively engaging with the EA.
He is underscoring the need for completion of the remediation work to restore the natural environment.
Concerned members of the public are encouraged to express their support for the clean-up operation through letters to authorities to maintain scrutiny on the environmental impact.
