Northamptonshire homeless charity's new venture

It comes after lottery funding

A homeless charity have been telling us about funding to allow them set up a café in Rushden to help those sleeping rough.

Stan Robertson set up Project 16 15 in 2017. Their aim was to go out to people struggling in the community and providing breakfast for those living on the streets.

They’ve now secured £20,000 in lottery money towards the project.

It comes as Stan has experienced homelessness himself in his past.

Stan told us about what he sees as the charity's unique approach:

"At the moment we have a whole truck which we take out when we're providing for people. It's got canopies, chairs, tables and it's a whole street café in itself.

"But I think it's the one to one approach which sets us out from the rest. It tells someone that you're worth something. We really do have genuine passion for each person as a human being."

Talking about the forthcoming plans for a café base in Rushden, Stan says it's all instrumental in a whole grander scheme of what they want to achieve:

"We're hoping for an opening date of around June 1st. The place is already a café, so it's generally about putting our own stamp on it and our own equipment in it.

"Within the next year and a half we would like a second set of premises in the Wellingborough area.

"Then in about three years time we'd like to have a drop-in centre in Northampton."
