Northamptonshire food larder say they're hoping to save eight tonnes of food this festive season.

That's how much the Towcester Community Food Larder saved over nine days last Christmas. They're a membership service that provides access to affordable groceries, by saving food and distributing donations.

This week they've launched their festive campaign called Random Act of Kindness now as well, as Katie Steele the Operations Manager explains;

"If people can afford it they can pay an extra £10 or £12 pounds , and that can go towards a shop for one of our supported members."

Katie says this time of year is especially difficult:

"We get quite a lot of requests at this time of year for people who can't afford to shop with us."

The festive period is especially busy with extra winter bills for things like gifts and fuel according to Katie.

"Food is a place where they can save money if they shop at the larder so we do get people contacting us for support."

Katie says the larder have extra support available for those in need this year.

"We contact primary schools within the area and they refer families that need extra food support over the Christmas school holidays and we provide some food bags that will help them out."
