Two 21-year-old men have been jailed following a knife robbery and drugs offences in Northampton town centre.

Damaris McBeth and Rhys Antwi targeted a 17-year-old boy on 19th April 2023, following him into a block of flats on Guildhall Road.

Once inside, the pair threatened him with a knife and stole his iPhone before fleeing the scene.

Shortly afterwards, the stolen phone was seen in an electronics store in Abington Street where the men were trying to sell it.

They were arrested by police and found to be carrying large quantities of drugs, including crack cocaine and heroin.

McBeth and Antwi were charged with robbing the boy and possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

McBeth pleaded guilty to both offences at Northampton Crown Court in November 2024. He was sentenced on 29th September to five years and three months in prison, with an additional four-year extension period, making his total sentence nine years and three months.

Antwi also pleaded guilty at Northampton Crown Court in August 2024. He received a sentence of five years and three months on 18th November.

Detective Constable James Oxford from Northamptonshire Police said: “I am really pleased with these sentences as it demonstrates the consequences of thinking you can steal people’s hard-earned possessions in Northamptonshire and get away with it.

“I would like to thank the victim in this case for his support of our investigation and I would also like to commend the members of the public who helped us locate both men on the day of the incident.

“Tackling serious violence and knife crime remains a priority for Northamptonshire Police and I hope this case sends a clear message that if you commit these types of crimes here, the police and the courts will deal with you robustly.”
