A prolific thief who targeted shops, businesses and homes across Northampton has been jailed for more than four years.

Jason Brittain, 44, carried out a string of thefts, burglaries and fraud offences between July and September last year.

He repeatedly stole from Boots in Northampton, taking items including nappies, shampoo and cash from a till drawer, while also causing damage inside the store. During one incident, he assaulted a member of the public who tried to stop him.

Brittain also stole food, coffee and bottles of Prosecco from Morrisons and BP garages.

In September, he burgled a home in Fulford Drive, stealing a safe and a sit-on lawnmower worth £1,500, before later targeting a Northampton business and stealing a laptop and tablet.

Brittain pleaded guilty to 19 offences, including theft, burglary, assault, criminal damage and fraud, at Northampton Crown Court.

He was sentenced to four years and 12 weeks in prison.
