Northampton business fined over £40,000 for illegal waste disposal
Council takes action against fly tipping incidents on local land
A Northampton business, JLN1 Ltd, operating as Zizou Lounge and Zizou Express, has been fined over £40,000 for unlawfully depositing commercial waste in the local area.
West Northamptonshire Council successfully prosecuted the company after it pled guilty to unlawfully disposing of significant quantities of commercial and food-related waste on land at Whitworth Road on three occasions between 22nd December 2025 and 23rd January 2026.
The court imposed a fine of £40,200 plus costs of £1,567.26, considering the repeated offences over a short period, the burden on local residents and landowners, and the commercial advantage gained by not legally disposing of waste.
The Environmental Crime Team acted on reports of illegal waste deposits, investigating and finding evidence linking the waste to JLN1 Ltd.
Due to the severity and repeated nature of the offences, the council prosecuted JLN1 Ltd under Section 34(1)(a) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
On 25th August, the Director of JLN1 Ltd attended Wellingborough Magistrates Court and entered a guilty plea for all three offences.
Councillor Andrew Last, Cabinet Member for HR, Corporate and Regulatory Services, emphasised the consequences: “This case sends out a clear and strong message to any business who may be tempted to cut corners and save money by incorrectly disposing of their commercial waste.
“Fly tipping any kind of waste is totally unacceptable and a blight on our communities. It gives a negative impression of our towns and villages, can attract vermin and encourages further fly tipping.
