North Northamptonshire Council has launched a consultation on its proposed Empty Homes Strategy, inviting local residents, businesses, and stakeholders to share their feedback.

The draft strategy aims to reduce the number of vacant properties across the area by bringing them back into use, addressing housing shortages, and tackling issues such as neglect and vandalism.

The council described empty properties as “wasted resources that become a blight on communities" and, in "extreme cases, can result in arson attacks."

In a statement, Cllr Kirk Harrison, North Northamptonshire Council’s Executive Member for Regulatory Services, said:

''Empty homes are a wasted resource at a time when many people are struggling to find suitable housing. Our proposed strategy sets out practical steps to reduce the number of long-term empty properties and bring them back into use for local families.''

The consultation will run until 1st March 2026, and responses from the public will be considered before the council’s Executive makes final decisions about the strategy later this year.
