An inquest into the death of 20-year-old Luke Abrahams from East Hunsbury in Northamptonshire has concluded there were 'missed opportunities' to get him to hospital.

A coroner said it could not determine whether earlier treatment for the amateur footballer, whose diagnosis of sepsis and necrotising fasciitis (a rare flesh-eating infection) was overlooked several times, would have changed the outcome.

Luke died at Northampton General Hospital in January 2023, after six misdiagnoses.

He and his family were first told he had tonsilitis, then sciatica.

An amputation on his leg followed, as did a cardiac arrest.

Luke's parents have maintained that errors made during his care led to his death.

Speaking outside the hearing this afternoon Luke's brother Jake said it had been "harrowing" to sit through the inquest, and the pain of losing him has not eased three years on.

He also said the Abrahams family can "never forgive the NHS for letting Luke down."

Bosses at the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire have apologised for not making clear how serious Luke's condition was when he arrived.
