Man jailed for Wellingborough stabbing
45-year-old James Gore has been sentenced to 12 years and nine months in jail.
A man has been jailed after admitting the stabbing of a man in Wellingborough.
On March the 15th earlier this year, a man in his 30s was parked in Brentford, Wellingborough, He about to spend the weekend with his partner who lived in the area.
Just as the man was about to get out of the car, James Andrew Gore, who also lived in the area, approached his vehicle and asked him to lower his window.
Gore then stabbed the man in the chest and neck with a knife. He then left the scene and walked back to his home. The man - who had never met Gore before - suffered a collapsed lung, stab wounds to his chest and collar bone, as well as injuries to his hand as he tried to defend himself.
He was taken to hospital with injuries that were found not to be life-threatening. He is currently recovering at home.
45-year-old Gore, previously of Brentford, Wellingborough, was arrested following the attack. He was subsequently charged by police with multiple offences. When he appeared at Northampton Crown Court earlier in the year, he pleaded guilty to Section 18 grievous bodily harm and possession of a bladed article.
At the same court last week (September 25th), Gore was sentenced to 12 years and nine months in prison. This sentence encompasses an extension period of five years after the judge classed him as a dangerous offender, and one year for breaching a suspended sentence order.
At the sentencing hearing, the victim read his personal statement aloud, saying:
“Every day I have to see the scars on my chest, my neck and hand. I am reminded of what happened to me, unprovoked violence to a point I thought I could have died. My lung was punctured by the attacker and every time I exert myself, I am reminded of the injuries he caused me for no reason.”
Detective Constable James Batten said: “This was a shocking and completely unprovoked attack on a man who was simply visiting his partner and had done nothing to deserve what happened to him."
“Gore armed himself with a knife and carried out a violent assault which left the victim with serious injuries, both physical and psychological. The impact of this incident is clear from the powerful victim personal statement he bravely read to the court."
“Knife crime has devastating consequences, and we remain committed to bringing offenders who choose to carry and use weapons to justice. I hope this sentence provides the victim with some reassurance and allows him to continue his recovery knowing Gore has been held accountable for his actions.”
