Man charged with harassment of MP in Wellingborough & Rushden

Accused of malicious communications and assault of emergency worker

A 38-year-old man has appeared at Northampton Magistrates’ Court charged with harassment of the MP for Wellingborough & Rushden.

Matthew Gorton, from Paling Close, Wellingborough, has been charged with one count of harassment - putting in fear of violence.

His arrest on Friday, 15th May followed accusations of sending malicious communications to MP Gen Kitchen.

In addition to the harassment charge, Gorton faces three other charges.

These include two counts of assault by beating an emergency worker and one count of possession of a controlled Class B drug, specifically cannabis.

Gorton has been remanded in custody pending his next court appearance at Northampton Crown Court on 29th June.
