Kettering MP Rosie Wrighting resigns as parliamentary private secretary
Wrighting praised the outgoing health secretary Wes Streeting as a "generational talent"
Rosie Wrighting, the MP for Kettering, has stepped down from her role as parliamentary private secretary (PPS) in the Department of Health.
The Press Association reports her resignation on Thursday, followed by a supportive post on Friday shared on X, formerly Twitter, acknowledging former Health Secretary Wes Streeting as a "generational talent."
Wrighting expressed her enjoyment in working with Streeting, stating, “It’s been a pleasure to work with Wes as a PPS in the Health Department. He never shies away from the right principled decision, even in difficult times, and this letter shows no difference.”
She shared Streeting’s resignation letter, recognising his leadership contribution towards NHS recovery amid significant national challenges.
Wrighting, one of Parliament's younger MPs, conveyed her perspective on the generational disparities impacting living standards, adding, "As an MP in my 20s, I feel that strongly. I know what it’s like to have living standards worse than our parents’, and I feel we owe my generation, and the one that comes after, everything."
She stressed the importance of political improvement and hope, cautioning against the divisive politics associated with Reform UK and Nigel Farage, advocating the Labour Party’s potential to counteract such influences.
Her message encouraged a transformative vision, highlighting the necessity for open discourse on progressive ideas and dynamic leadership within the Labour movement.
