Thousands of illegal cigarettes and vapes seized in Northampton and Daventry

Trading Standards visited 9 convenience stores during a two-day crackdown.

Trading Standards have seized thousands of illegal cigarettes and vapes from shops in Northampton and Daventry.

officers confiscated:

  • 4,374 packets of illicit cigarettes
  • 18.4kg of illegal hand‑rolling tobacco
  • 654 illegal disposable vapes
  • £10,000 in cash.

Officers found the banned products, along with cash and counterfeit goods, hidden in eight stores during a crackdown earlier this month.

Businesses are being warned that selling illegal tobacco can lead to penalties of up to £10,000, alongside civil sanctions including seizure and destruction of products and – in some cases – criminal prosecution.

Everything confiscated will be destroyed.
