Sam Hoskins has signed a new contract to stay with Northampton Town, following his recently completed testimonial season.

Northampton Town have endured a difficult 2025–26 campaign in League One, finishing bottom of the table in 24th place with just 35 points from 46 games, meaning relegation from the third tier after a season in which they struggled for consistency and conceded 74 goals across the league.

Hoskins is noted for being the club's second highest appearance maker and fourth highest goalscorer since he joined Northampton Town in 2015.

He has contributed to the team's success in previous seasons, including three promotions during his time at Sixfields, and famously scoring in each of those decisive games. However, this season the club’s overall form dipped sharply, with Northampton spending much of the campaign in the relegation places.

Hoskins said, "I am really pleased to be staying with Northampton Town," expressing his affection for the club and commitment to its future.

He spoke of his ambition to drive the club forward and his readiness to begin pre-season following discussions with the new manager.

Manager Chris Hogg remarked on Hoskins' professional reputation and experience, which he believes will benefit the team.

Hogg highlighted the importance of cultural leadership, saying Hoskins will set the tone as a leader in the dressing room and serve as a mentor for younger players.

He expressed his satisfaction at Hoskins' continued role in the squad, underscoring his value to the club's efforts moving forward.

Summer rebuild

Northampton Town have confirmed their retained list following the end of the 2025–26 season, with a major squad reshaping underway after relegation to League Two.

Players under contract for 2026–27 include Jack Burroughs, Conor McCarthy, Dean Campbell, Jon Guthrie, Elliott List, Kamarai Swyer, Tyrese Fornah, Joe Wormleighton, Jack Perkins, Elliott Moore, Liam Shaw, Ross Fitzsimons and Max Dyche, with the club also activating an option to extend Jon Guthrie’s deal.

Hoskins is among a group offered new contracts alongside Lee Burge, Cameron McGeehan, Nesta Guinness-Walker, James Dadge and Neo Dobson.

Players not offered new deals include Jordan Willis and Tom Eaves, along with Theo Avery, Kyle Edwards, Josh Tomlinson, Matty Ireland, Michael Jacobs and Jack Vale.
