Over 1,500 new electric vehicle (EV) charging sockets are going to be installed across North Northamptonshire.

It's thanks to a partnership between North Northamptonshire Council and charge-point operator Connected Kerb. The project is co-funded by Connected Kerb and supported by £2.9 million from the Government’s Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) fund.

The council says that over the next three to five years, the current network of publicly available chargepoints (around 525 charging sockets) will be expanded threefold, with installations planned across 320 new sites including all 12 towns, more than 20 villages, and at least 20 Council-owned car parks across North Northamptonshire. Fully accessible bays will be provided in Council car parks.

They say the number of sockets will rise to at least 2,000 by 2030, making EV charging more accessible and reliable for residents, businesses, and visitors, particularly the 30% of households without a private driveway. The council believes this major investment will provide confidence in the availability of EV infrastructure to support a shift to EV driving.

"With Government funding and the support of our delivery partner Connected Kerb, we’re making a practical investment in our local infrastructure that will benefit residents, businesses and visitors across North Northamptonshire for years to come."

"Whether you're driving an electric vehicle for work, mobility, or simply for convenience, this rollout will ensure reliable charging is available close to home. We’re focused on delivering value for money, giving people more choice, and ensuring North Northamptonshire is ready for the future. "

"This investment will help ensure that more people have the option to make the switch to an EV when the time is right for them."

Councillor Chris McGiffen, Executive Member for Highways and Travel.

"We’re proud to partner with North Northamptonshire Council on one of the most ambitious EV charging programmes in the region. By rolling out over 1,500 new charging sockets, the Council is making sure that EV charging is not just available, but accessible and reliable for everyone - especially households without off-street parking. We’re delighted to bring our experience to the region and support a future-proof network that will help residents, businesses and visitors embrace cleaner, more sustainable transport."

Chris Pateman-Jones, CEO at Connected Kerb.

The LEVI project is part of the Council’s wider commitment to supporting cleaner, more sustainable transport. It is also a key element of the North Northamptonshire Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Strategy (2024–2030).
