The go ahead has been given for a set of measures in the North Northamptonshire countryside to help tackle the threat of flooding.

It's part of the RAIN project, which stands for Resilience and Innovation Northants.

Covering two hectares of wetland and situated along the Harpers Brook, the aim is reduce and slow the flow of water during sever weather.

It'll involve shallow ponds, raised embankments and wildflower meadows, creating also a habitat for wildlife to enhance local biodiversity.

More full details are expected in the spring but the scheme is managed by the Environment Agency.

The RAIN Project is funded by Defra as part of the £200 million Flood and Coastal Innovation Programmes.

A spokesperson for the work say:

"For people who have been flooded it means cost, loss, heart break, utter despair and anxiety. The RAIN project aims to change these feelings. We will build confidence and show those who are at risk or have experienced flooding that it is possible to be resilient, be prepared and recover.

"We will work at catchment, community and property level to equip communities with the tools and support they need to improve their resilience to extreme weather.

"Also, we'll be working with landowners and farmers in the upstream areas of catchments to slow/reduce the flow."
