Former Northants Police officer "would have been dismissed" had he not resigned
A misconduct disciplinary panel was held yesterday into a breach of behaviour standards.
A former Northamptonshire Police constable would have been dismissed without notice had he not already resigned following a gross misconduct disciplinary hearing.
The hearing, chaired by Chief Constable Ivan Balhatchet, was held by Northamptonshire Police at Force Headquarters on Wednesday 6 May.
The subject officer was granted anonymity in advance of the hearing.
It was alleged that the officer concerned breached the standards of professional behaviour when between December 2023 and February 2024 they received sexual services in return for payment on more than one occasion.
It was alleged that the officer concerned breached the standards of professional behaviour relating to discreditable conduct.
The former officer left Northamptonshire Police prior to the hearing being held, and did not attend the hearing.
The Chief Constable considered the available evidence and found the conduct proved as Gross Misconduct.
The Chief Constable determined: “the conduct is too serious and the risk of reputational harm too high for this to be appropriate. This was a clear and repeated breach, contrary to police guidance, which fundamentally threatens the trust and confidence the public places with the police. I find therefore that the appropriate outcome in this case would have been dismissal had the officer still be serving.”
