Five-year Criminal Behaviour Order for Northampton shoplifter targeting retailers
Simon Boswell sentenced for thefts in Duston area worth over £2,290
A 44-year-old from Northampton, has been issued with a five-year Criminal Behaviour Order after repeatedly stealing from shops in the Duston area.
The order was granted by Northampton Magistrates’ Court on 23rd July after Simon Boswell pleaded guilty to 16 theft offences earlier this month.
Between April and June, Boswell stole more than £2,290 worth of items from the One Shop in Main Road, Duston. The goods included alcohol, confectionary, meat, cheese, coffee, cigarettes, household products, and toiletries.
Alongside the order, Boswell received a 12-month community order, tag monitoring with exclusions, drug rehabilitation requirement, and 20 days of rehabilitation activities.
Anti-Social Behaviour Sergeant Grace Manwaring from Northamptonshire Police said: “Simon Boswell is a persistent shoplifter who has targeted the same stores repeatedly and when staff have challenged him, he has often responded with abusive and threatening behaviour.
"His actions have caused fear and upset for shop workers and customers alike. We hope the Criminal Behaviour Order will help protect retail staff, who have the right to work in a safe environment without fear of crime.
"Northamptonshire Police will use all available powers to tackle offenders like Boswell. The fact that he has also been sent to prison shows that this kind of behaviour has serious consequences.
"By publishing details of the order and his photograph, we want retail staff and the public to understand the restrictions he must follow. If anyone sees Boswell breaking the conditions, we ask them to report it to us straight away by calling 101 so we can take appropriate action.”
The Criminal Behaviour Order imposes several restrictions on Boswell. He is prohibited from entering specific stores such as One Stop Shop, Co-op, Tesco, and Marks & Spencer in Northamptonshire. He is also barred from certain areas, including Main Road and Limehurst Square in Duston, and Sixfields in Upton.
Boswell is also banned from entering any premises in Northamptonshire from which he has been excluded or remaining on any premises if asked to leave. He must avoid any behaviour likely to cause annoyance, alarm, or distress.
Failure to comply with the order could lead to further arrest and prosecution.
