Family pay tribute to 84-year-old man who died after Cottingham Road crash
'He was simply magic' say the family of Charlie Watt
The family of a pedestrian who died after being hit by a car on Cottingham Road have paid tribute to him.
Charlie Watt died in hospital after suffering serious injuries in a crash involving the driver of a blue Vauxhall Astra at about 4.30pm on Saturday 22nd August.
The 84-year-old had just celebrated his birthday days earlier, on Monday 17th August, and died on 23rd August, which would have been his late wife's birthday.
'Simply magic'
In a tribute issued with a photograph of Charlie, his family described him as a much-loved dad, grandad and great grandad.
Charlie's family said: "He was a truly special, one-of-a-kind character, if you met Charlie, you definitely wouldn't forget him. He had a wonderful sense of humour, and many stories to tell.
"There is an enormous emptiness where he should be. Charlie had just turned 84 on Monday, August 17 and sadly passed away not long after his birthday on August 23, which would have been his late wife's birthday, they are now together again.
"Charlie's life was full of love, memories and plenty of laughter, and even at 84 he was still a big kid. His stories will be told for generations to come; he was simply magic.
"We are so thankful for everybody's love and support over this difficult time."
Investigation continues
A 46-year-old man from Corby was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit would still like to hear from anyone who may have dash-cam footage which captured any part of the crash.
