Family of young driver thank supporters after inquest into his death

The parents of Cody Stock have thanked those who supported their family after the inquest into the fatal road collision that claimed his life at Northamptonshire Coroner’s Court.

Cody, who was 22 years old, died as a result of a collision on the A45 between Ditchford Lane in Rushden and Turnells Mill Lane in Wellingborough on 5th December last year.

During the inquest held at Northampton's Guildhall, it was revealed that Cody's grey Vauxhall Mokka had aquaplaned on surface water along the carriageway, which had accumulated following heavy rainfall.

Assistant Coroner’s Officer for Northamptonshire, Mr Hassan Shah, concluded Cody's death was due to a road traffic collision.

Mr Shah announced he will seek a report from National Highways regarding the condition of the road, potentially paving the way for future preventative measures to prevent further incidents.

Cody’s parents, Adam and Hayley, paid tribute, commemorating him as a compassionate, caring individual who brought joy and comfort to those around him.

"As a son, we were always so proud of his ability to overcome adversity and shine, many times against the odds. He was such a genuinely caring person who would always ensure everyone else was happy and that they knew they mattered and were important."

"Cody will be remembered for his kindness and compassion. He would always be willing to help anyone who needed it and frequently put others before himself. He was just an amazing, kind, funny and inspirational person."

"Everyone just wanted to be around him. He had the ability to cheer others up when needed and never failed to put a smile on their faces. He lived for his family and friends, who loved him so much."

"Cody was a hero to his little brother, much adored by his sisters and a great friend to so many. He was a cheeky chap with a dry sense of humour and his own unique take on life."

Adam and Hayley welcomed the coroner’s findings and expressed hope for measures improving road safety in the future. They added:

"We welcome the findings of the coroner and his decision to request a report to determine whether any measures can be implemented to improve road safety and help reduce the risk of future collisions."

"As a family, we were devastated that another young man sustained serious injuries in the collision, and our thoughts and prayers remain with him and his family at what continues to be a particularly challenging time for them."

"We would like to take this opportunity to send our heartfelt thanks to everyone who stopped at the scene and tried to help both young men, as well as those who assisted with the police investigation."

"We would especially like to thank Northamptonshire Police for their support, particularly our family liaison officers, as well as East Midlands Ambulance Service and Northamptonshire Fire & Rescue Service for their efforts."

"Lastly, thank you to everyone for your kind words, love, and support. It has meant so much to us all in the darkest of times knowing that Cody was so loved by so many."

One of Cody's friends, travelling with him on that night, also suffered serious injuries in the accident.
