Corby MP urges East Midlands Railway to tackle service issues
Corby and East Northamptonshire constituents face continued train disruptions
The MP for Corby has called for urgent action from East Midlands Railway (EMR) to address ongoing service disruptions affecting train travel between Corby and London St Pancras.
In a letter Lee Barron shared the frustration of constituents dealing with frequent cancellations and delays. Barron said these issues are "significantly impacting people's lives, disrupting employment, undermining productivity, and imposing unnecessary costs."
Barron noted that many constituents find themselves stranded due to sudden cancellations, with trains becoming "frequently overcrowded, with standing room only and inadequate passenger comfort."
He emphasised, "Confidence in the service has steadily eroded, and my constituents have also reported being late for early morning work appointments because they have abandoned plans for staying overnight in London."
The MP stressed the need to restore trust in the rail service, calling for "urgent action to restore confidence in this vital transport link."
In response, EMR said they were investing £30 million to refurbish its connect fleet, acknowledging recent challenges due to extreme weather and infrastructure issues.
An EMR spokesperson said, “We recognise the frustration that disruption causes and are working closely with our industry partners to improve reliability and minimise the impact on customers.”
