An Army Veteran and Disability Advocate, from Towcester says the disabled community should be able to adventure as well.

Nick Wilson is known as the Disabled Adventurer. He left the army after a 14 year career following a spinal injury and talks about his experience of having PTSD, a physical disability and surviving a suicide attempt.

He's gained an online following documenting his life and adventures. He says accessibility has lost the concept of fun for disabled people:

"Accessibility's become very formal. This is how wide a door has to be. This is the ramp. This is how you know, steep or shallow the incline has to be. You have to have this in place accessible toilet.

"We've lost the fun and I really want to remind people that whilst accessibility is about infrastructure and and enabling people to get into buildings or to get into places to get into the outdoors."

He says adventures outside shouldn't be out of reach for disabled people:

"Ultimately, it's it's about enabling people, to have experiences and to create memories of having fun that can stay with them. And that really gives them belief that when they're fighting every single day against all the challenges, experiencing all their symptoms, that they know they can still go out and have some fun, they know they can still go out and create happy memories."

Nick has made a film about his recent unaided trip up Snowdon in an extreme all-terrain mobility chair.

He worked with an engineering firm, also in Towcester called Rock Engineering on a specially adapted chair known as RockClimber.

He become the first person with disabilities to reach the highest accessible point of Yr Wyddfa, at over 1000m up, in a power mobility chair with no physical support.

His film about the journey is called Project RockClimber and will be screened at Royal & Derngate Thursday 21st August.
