Gary Setchell has resigned as manager of Corby Town with immediate effect as the football club faces mounting financial challenges.

The departure of Setchell was confirmed alongside a statement addressing ongoing issues relating to the club's finances.

The statement outlined that efforts have been made in recent weeks to maintain the same playing budget as last season. However, despite those efforts, financial targets have not been met.

Lower-than-expected attendances, rising operational costs, and the inability to bridge the growing financial gap through volunteers, sponsorship, and local support have all contributed to the situation, according to the club.

In response to the financial difficulties, the entire squad and management team have voluntarily taken pay cuts to help alleviate the strain. The club said the decision reflects the players' and staff's commitment to its future and their determination to remain competitive.

The owners of Corby Town also revealed they have personally absorbed annual losses of around £80,000 but stated that this is no longer sustainable.

Plans to pursue funding for a 4G pitch were mentioned, with early steps in place. The club emphasised that operating sustainably and responsibly will be key to securing such funding.

The owners remain committed to the best interests of the club and welcome discussions with any individuals or groups who believe they can support its future direction.

The club closed the statement by asking for continued support from fans and the community during this difficult period.

Gary Setchell was thanked for his time at the club, with the statement concluding: “We would like to wish him well with his future endeavours.”
