Corby Town Council has criticised North Northamptonshire Council, claiming they are being left out of planning discussions that impact local communities.

The Town Council says it is not being routinely consulted on planning applications for developments in Corby, raising concerns over transparency and accountability.

Councillors have called on North Northamptonshire Council to urgently review its consultation procedures and restore communication with parish and town councils across the area.

Cllr Steve O’Brien, Chair of Corby Town Council’s Planning Committee, has strongly condemned the issue.

“The most worrying part is that Corby Town Council is repeatedly not being consulted on planning applications. That is completely unacceptable," he said.

Cllr O’Brien explained that councillors are entitled to be consulted on planning matters within Corby, and added that when they are excluded, it leaves residents without a proper say on developments affecting their lives.

“Our job is to represent the people of Corby. When applications come forward without the Town Council being notified, it shuts residents out and weakens democratic oversight.

“At the same time, developers wanting to build in Corby are waiting weeks for responses, which only adds to the dysfunction.”

The Town Council has urged North Northamptonshire Council to ensure statutory duties are followed and address the issue promptly to safeguard local representation in planning decisions.

A spokesperson from North Northamptonshire Council said: "It has been brought to the Council’s attention recently that Corby Town Council had not been directly consulted on a planning application. This was an administrative error.

"We quickly rectified this with a consultation being sent that allows the town council the same amount of time to submit their comments so that these can be taken into account."
