A 39-year-old man has been sentenced to 22 years in prison after being found guilty of attempted murder in Corby.

Nicoloie Pletescu received the sentence on 13th April at Northampton Crown Court following his conviction on 14th January 2023.

The incident began around 6.15pm on 8th July last year when police were alerted to a stabbing in Mantlefield Road.

Pletescu stabbed the victim, a man in his 30s, three times, reportedly saying “die” with each blow, according to court testimonies.

The victim, who had known Pletescu as a friend for over 20 years, identified him as the attacker.

Allegations of an affair between the victim and Pletescu’s wife surfaced during the investigation.

However, the alleged affair was denied and no evidence was found to support it occurred.

The knife used in the attack was later found washed and placed on the draining board in Pletescu’s home.

After his arrest, Pletescu was charged with one count of attempted murder.

Today, he was sentenced to 22 years in prison with an additional five years on extended licence.

Detective Sergeant Amelia Thompson, lead investigator from the North CID team, expressed gratitude towards the victim for his support.

“First of all, I’d like to thank the victim in this case for his support throughout our investigation.

"He was brutally attacked on that day in July last year and the incident has had a profound effect on him - both physically and psychologically. Despite this however, he has assisted us at every stage and remains positive and determined to not let this incident define him," she said.

“Tackling knife crime is a priority for this Force and we will do everything we can to achieve positive outcomes such as this one.”
