A bereaved father from East Hunsbury in Northamptonshire is completing a 70 mile walk in honour of his son.

Richard Abrahams, along with his sons friend Martin McBrien, have spent three days walking from Northampton Town's Sixfields Stadium to West Ham, the club he supports, to raise money for two charities, The UK Sepsis Trust and The Lee Spark NF Foundation, in honour of his son Luke.

What began as a sore throat for Richard's 20 year old son Luke, eventually lead to a diagnosis of sepsis and necrotising fasciitis. Luke then underwent leg amputation surgery in January 2023 to try and save him, but died shortly after suffering a cardiac arrest.

The family are angered at delays to an inquest into Luke's death.

Despite having false hips Richard says he wanted to complete the walk to honour his son:

"We do find it hard but we are hoping it doesn't happen to anyone else.

"We just want to thank everyone for the support, not just for the walk, but for Luke."

Along with sharing memories of Luke on the gruelling three day walk Richard says there have been lighter moments for him and Martin:

"Martin nearly got attacked by a goose! They're very protective of their young and one snarled at him as we walked the canals on Milton Keynes."

West Ham is Richard's Club who Luke also supported and the club have let them finish the walk on the pitch, as well as donating a shirt to be auctioned at the annual charity football match in his honour. That's happening 28th June at Roade Football Club.
