Arrest made in connection with Sywell murder investigation

A 72 year-old man has been arrested, on suspicion of murder, after the death of a woman in Sywell.

Police officers were called to the caravan park in Ecton Lane, Sywell, at about 6.20am today (August 24), after reports of an assault.

When they arrived, they found the body of a woman inside a caravan.

A murder investigation has been opened and the 72 year-old man, arrested by officers, remains in police custody at this time.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Ryan Catling, said: “This is an extremely tragic incident, in which a woman has sadly lost her life and our thoughts are with her family, friends and loved ones, at what will be an incredibly difficult and distressing time.

“Specialist officers are supporting her next of kin and we ask that their privacy is respected while they come to terms with this terrible loss.

“Our investigation is moving at pace, and we are committed to securing all available evidence and doing everything we can to get justice.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area, while our inquiries continue and, even though we have made an arrest, I would encourage anyone who may have information that could assist our investigation to contact us.”
