The Tyne Bridge is now fully closed for major restoration works.

It's shut for cars, bikes and pedestrians, until Monday the 2nd of November when it will re-open.

Engineers are building scaffolding on the main arch as part of the restoration project and diversions are in place.

Teams will be working around the clock to build the scaffolding above the carriageway. This will mean that the bridge will remain open while the main work takes place on the main arch. That phase of the project is expected to start in early 2027.

The public are being asked to plan ahead to make their journeys easier.
