Mother and child injured as motorcycle flees scene
A four-year-old boy is in hospital with serious injuries following a hit-and-run involving a motorcycle in South Shields.
The incident occurred around 3.20pm on Saturday outside Ocean Beach Pleasure Park.
A motorcycle collided with the child and his mother as they were crossing the road.
The motorcycle, described as a petrol-powered bike for road use without a registration plate, left the scene after the collision.
The woman's injuries were minor, and she was taken to hospital for treatment.
Following the crash, Northumbria Police closed a section of the road between Ocean Road and Beach Road for a short time.
The road has now reopened.
Police are seeking help from the public in tracing the rider of the motorcycle.
The rider is described as a white male of thick build wearing a sky blue, short-sleeved t-shirt, dark-coloured shorts, black ankle socks, and red trainers.
The Roads Policing Unit at Northumbria Police has launched an investigation and officers are looking for witnesses.
