There are calls for the Government and the NHS to recognise obesity as a medical condition rather than just a lifestyle choice.
It comes as stats show around 40% of adults in the North East are obese.
Hope Lancaster lives in Newcastle - she had multiple health conditions and at her heaviest weighed nearly 300 pounds - but after seeking medical advice and treatment tells us her life has been transformed.
She said: "I've been a diabetic since 2009, and my doctors had put me on every medication, and I was obese. I was very obese. I was almost 300 lbs and have lost over 130 lbs now.
"My diabetes is in remission, and I've changed my whole life. I'm able to get up and go. My blood sugars are good. I've been able to get off a lot of medications and it's just been life changing for me.
"I was really depressed. I stayed home a lot. I didn't like going to events, weddings, family events where there were thinner people.
"But I live streamed my whole wedding last year so it was a big, big difference.
"It's really been life changing. I've been able to go on all these adventures to castles and walk long distance. It's really been something that I never thought I would ever do in my lifetime."
