The family and friends of a 14-year-old boy who drowned after getting into difficulty in the River Tyne are gathering for the anniversary.

Today (Sunday) marks one year since Newcastle teenagers, Aras Rudzianskas and David Radut, found themselves in trouble in the water near the bridge at Ovingham.

Hits Radio North East spoke with David's sister Alice about the anniversary of his death and how they plan on celebrating his life.

Alice Radut said: "He was a really, really happy person with a lot of ideas to make you laugh, to make you feel happy, to make you feel good.

"We want all the people who loved him to be around us and also around the place that it happened, like us as a family, the closest friends, aunties, cousins.

"My pain is pressing because I know that he's not going to come back and there's no way for me to describe this, there's no words. How can you describe this kind of pain because it's a really big pain.

"We plan to go to the Ovingham bridge where the tragedy happened. We would like to go there around 12pm and we ask some people to come with some white flowers, also some balloons.

"After that we're going to go to the cemetery. We're going to bring flowers and something in David's memory. After that, we're going to go in a really big park. We actually asked some people to play in a football team to play in David's memory."
