Delays at Newcastle Airport as snow arrives in the North East
Last updated 5th Jan 2025
Heavy overnight snow is causing widespread disruption across the UK including the North East as the cold start to the new year continues.
Several major airports have been affected while some key roads in northern England remained shut.
The Met Office said some rural communities could be cut off, with up to 40cm of snow on ground above 300m before conditions ease later on Sunday.
Newcastle Airport's social media account stated: "The Airport continues to experience heavy and continuous snowfall and teams are working across the site to keep passengers and colleagues safe.
"We continue to see some disruption to the flight schedule and recommend passengers visit our website or app for the latest flight information, or contact their airline."
