A man's been left in a critical condition after what police are describing as a serious assault in Newcastle.

He was found at Byker Metro Station on Raby Street at 11.10pm on Monday (13 April).

Emergency services say a man in his 40s - had suffered a head injury, consistent with having been assaulted.

He was taken to hospital for treatment, with his condition currently described as critical but stable.

The man’s next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from officers.

Those believed to have been involved in the assault had fled the area prior to police attending.

An investigation was immediately launched by the Criminal Investigation Department at Northumbria Police – and officers have appealed to the public for information.

They are especially keen to hear from anyone in the area who saw the moments leading up to the assault, including any residents or passing motorists with footage.

Anyone with information should send Northumbria Police a direct message on social media or use live chat and report forms on the Force’s website.

Those unable to make contact in these ways can call 101.
