Man in hospital after assault in Newcastle
Two boys arrested in connection with the incident
A man in his 50s is in hospital with serious head injuries after being allegedly assaulted in Newcastle city centre.
The incident occurred at 5.10pm on Thursday on Claremont Road when the man, riding his bicycle, was approached by two people on a moped.
One of the individuals is said to have pushed the cyclist from his bike, causing him to fall.
He remains in hospital in a life-threatening condition.
Northumbria Police have launched an investigation and have arrested two boys, aged 14 and 16, at Walker Park in Newcastle on suspicion of wounding with intent to commit grievous bodily harm.
Both boys are currently in custody.
Claremont Road is closed to traffic as officers conduct enquiries, and a section of Walker Park is also closed.
Appealing for Witnesses
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
They are especially interested in speaking to those who were in the Claremont Road area shortly after 5pm and individuals who may have dash cam footage.
