Investigation continues following re-arrest in connection to Liam Potts' death
Family pays heartfelt tribute as police appeal for community support
Two men have been re-arrested on suspicion of manslaughter in relation to the death of Liam Potts, whose body was discovered in the River Tyne near Wylam Bridge.
Liam was reported missing after a night out with friends on Saturday, 15th August, and was found on 18th August.
The re-arrests follow Northumbria Police’s continued investigation into a disturbance and a collision on Wylam Bridge around the time of Liam's disappearance.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Rachael Rutherford noted that Liam was not struck by the vehicle involved and left the bridge on foot, entering the water minutes after the collision for reasons still unknown.
“Our thoughts remain with Liam’s family during this difficult time,” Det Insp Rutherford said.
“We have therefore made the further re-arrests as we are looking to establish whether there is any link between the collision and Liam entering the water.”
Family tribute and plea for privacy
Liam's family has shared a moving tribute to him, highlighting his unforgettable presence and the legacy of love he leaves behind.
His loved ones said:
"To our Liam. You may no longer be here beside us, but your presence will never be forgotten. Your family, friends and colleagues have all said the same thing, 'once you met Pottsy, you could never forget him.'"
As the investigation continues, the family has requested privacy and expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support during this challenging time.
They have also directed attention to a GoFundMe page created to donate to Mountain Rescue Teams that supported the search efforts.
