A North Shields community development charity say they are expecting a rise in families using their services over the summer holidays.

They tell us how the 6-weeks holidays can be a difficult time for families because of the added financial pressures.

Wayne Dobson is the CEO of Cedarwood Trust and says they are expecting a very busy summer.

He said: "We've already seen an uptake on all the provisions that we've delivered here at Cedarwood over the last 12 months and numbers have increased significantly.

"We're certainly going to see more families at Cedarwood accessing our family support and accessing the nourished social supermarket where people can get a discounted shop.

"The cost of living hasn't gone anywhere. Inflation is still climbing, and we are seeing inflation shrinkage where the things that you buy in the shop, whether it's that conditioner, whether it's the vegetable oil, whatever it may be, has shrunk in size.

"It's not just food. We have these children who are going to want to go out to an activity, go to the beach. All that cost money. All of it costs money that families just do not have. The squeeze is so tight, and we see that every single day at Cedarwood."
