A Hexham singer-songwriter performing at Glastonbury this week is urging music fans to be more eco-friendly at the festival.

Organisers are encouraging people to use public transport when travelling and to recycle their waste.

With fans expected to travel over 120 miles, they say switching to rail could save up to 543 tonnes of CO₂—around 12kg per person.

Jade Bird, a singer-songwriter at Glastonbury, said: "Emissions of cars kind of completely soar at this festival just because the amount of people that are going.

"I think whatever we can sort of do, we should be doing. We have a great train system, it's not the same in a lot of places

"So I think if we can make the most of it and help the environment, why not?"

She continued to say: "Not to sound like an old lady but, just clean up after yourself.

"I think that's not that difficult. Take back what you can."
